Ispent a lot of time with our happy-go-lucky ne’er-do-wells as they trapsed across whatever part of the universe they were bounty hunting in. I was lucky enough to help bring some concepts to life like such as the landing strip inside a ginormous space destroyer, a snow fortress, and a secret biosphere facility. I froze a butler and a ladies hand, I submerged a space cowboy in green goo, and was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award (best visual effects in a TV show). The secret base hidden in the asteroid cloud was an interesting dance to choreograph. What bagged the nomination was the battle sequence in the space “Archive”. It took a while to go from thumbnails to finished product, and I had a hand in development all the way through. Many challenges had to be overcome both technical and aesthetic. It may have been a slightly cheesy space opera, but it was our slightly cheesy opera. Need a secret asteroid base? Call me.
Honourable mention goes to what we laughingly called “the truck shot”. It’s a beauty shot for the Killjoy’s ride, “Lucy”. Just a slight move on the camera and the lighting makes it look like an ad for a F-150.
